Warner Bros. job listing hints at new puzzle game

A new list of jobs from Warner Bros. implies that the media conglomerate may be working on a puzzle game featuring one of their beloved properties.

Warner Bros may be working on a puzzle game

The past few weeks have been a busy time for media conglomerate Warner Bros. Between the long-awaited but conflicting release of Justice League: Snyder Cup and tomorrow’s trailer premiere for Space Jam: a new legacy, the company is progressing on the cinema side. Now, the company’s games division has received an interesting new development as well as a mysterious job listing has appeared on the Warner Bros. hiring website, and fans are already speculating on what that might mean.

The announcement concerns a contractual position at WB Games Montreal, the same game studio that created Batman: Arkham Origins and the recently delayed Batman title Knights of Gotham. However, this listing doesn’t appear to be for another superhero action game like its past work, instead breaking into a new genre entirely.

Warner Bros. Montreal is looking for a Game Designer with experience in puzzle game design. Job responsibilities include using “legacy systems” to create unique puzzle scenarios and improving existing puzzles to create a user-friendly experience. This all sounds like a pretty typical job listing, but the main takeaway for fans is that Warner Bros. is in the process of creating a brand new puzzle game that he has yet to announce.

This project could potentially be anything, but there are a few options that make the most sense. On the one hand, WB Montreal has mainly worked on Batman games, so this could be another project focused on the caped crusader. While puzzles aren’t the first thing you might think of when adapting the character, there is potential in some sort of mobile game spin-off that focuses on the investigative side of Batman, which would complete the open world adventure of Knights of Gotham very well.

This project could also be for another Warner Bros. series, as the conglomerate owns hundreds of IPs from Rick and morty, To Harry potter, To Adventure time. Virtually all of these IP addresses could fit into a puzzle mold if simplified enough, but there are a few candidates that are more likely than others. Harry potter already has a lot of gameplay spinoffs, so a puzzle game spinoff wouldn’t be shocking at all, although it would be a relatively un-exciting choice compared to the rest.

One of Cartoon Network’s shows could be interesting to adapt, with Infinity train especially being a recent hit that would translate perfectly into a puzzle game mold. However, until an official announcement is made, no one can know what that might be for. In the meantime, there is at least one large Warner Bros. library. on HBO Max to overwhelm fans with a lot of content.
